Ultrasounds and Imaging

Excited to see the baby (or babies) inside? There are two locations in St. Thomas/St. John that offer ultrasound imaging. Please note that ultrasounds and imaging require an order from your prenatal provider.

St. Thomas Radiology

Location: Paragon Building Suite 103, St. Thomas

Feeling awkward and this is your first time? If you’re in your first trimester, make sure you’ve drank the recommended water intake because a full bladder will push your uterus forward and allow for easier imaging. As you enter the office, type your name on the iPad in front of you and have a seat. Your name will be called and you will be asked to provide your ID, insurance information, and the order from your prenatal provider. You may have a copay or be required to pay in full. Payment is taken prior to the scans. You’ll have a seat and the ultrasound tech will come out to get you. You will follow her in to the ultrasound suite. You’ll pull up your shirt to expose your belly and a towel will be placed in the waistband of your pants. A warmed jelly will be squirted onto your belly and the tech will use a wand to see the image on her screen as she takes measurements and shows you what she sees.

Trying to find out baby’s gender, or not? Usually around 18 weeks, the gender becomes apparent on ultrasound imaging. It’s not always accurate and the tech or radiologist is not liable for an incorrect reading. If you want it to be a surprise, you can ask the tech to put the gender in a sealed envelope. And if you don’t want to know at all, make sure to let them (and your prenatal doctor’s office) know at the start to all visits.
